You
are in Peñiscola on the Land of Valencia's Costa del Azahar. We
are sure that the town's unique site will impress you. The old quarter
of white houses surrounded by walls and fortifications is on a promontory
jutting into the sea. In the middle of it stands the castle which was
once home to the controversial 15th century Pope Benedict XIII more commonly
known as Papa Luna.
Peñiscola's charm; its historical wealth, its long and beautiful beaches
together with the gentle Mediterranean climate, offer a great choice of
things to do.
The town also has an up to date tourist facilities providing excellent services to the visitor.
Mediterranean
landscape - Enjoy strolling around the old part of town, which is
full of historical character. Explore its narrow streets dotted with ramparts,
gun batteries, watchtowers, coats of arms, beautiful gateways and gardens.
There is also a fishing harbour and - on the highest point - the imposing
castle from which you can get a magnificent panoramic view of the whole
coast.
Climb the rocky outcrop which juts into the sea, to see two different aspects
of Peñiscola. To the North, wide beaches and fertile coastal plain. To
the South, the beach near the harbour, followed by a steep, rocky coast
which is punctuated by unspoilt coves.
Exciting Sports - You can enjoy all your favourite sports in Peñiscola especially those to do with the sea: fishing, scuba-diving, swimming, sailing, windsurfing, etc. You can also play football, tennis, basketball, handball and frontenis. If you are a golf lover, Castellon and Borriol have excellent courses.
Local
Cuisine - Don't forget to try the excellent local cuisine which is
based on fresh and natural ingredients. Taste the excellent fish and seafood
straight from the waters of the Med and the rich fertile farmlands around
Peñiscola. If you want, start with the well known and delicious paella,
but try the region's other special dishes too: suquet de piex, arròs
setjat, all i pebre de polpet, remelsco, spicy fish, fried fish, date
mussels, king prawns, l'olla de cardets, etc. Restaurant
